I should be updating more, I know... But thanks for checking in anyway. I find myself goofing on Facebook a lot when I'm not working on something... I like FB's interface a lot more than this html-ing we're doing here. It is an art in itself. But ok... the discography... fucked up... News... too much to mention... Projects...ditto... As is now; what I'm working on fills me (and my wallet) with pride and even more joy. I feel blessed to be able to be doing what I'm doing and I have the strong idea I'm getting less and less lame-assed by the hour. Growing and refining!
Gotta go!
Double love shots!

I will be playing shitloads of instruments on the new Acda en de Munnik tour. I will not be playing all of the dates due to studio workload.
Also new AedM, De Dijk, Sonja van Hamel, Avant La Lettre, Dusty Stray, Arthur Ebeling, Local Spastics, The Souldiers albums coming up. And I'm only mentioning half of what's in the pipeline for this year. The Solomon Burke/De Dijk album is a major seller in Holland and it is now released in some 30 odd countries. From march 2011 on it will be released through the legendary Verve label in the USA. I still miss Solomon daily and I think it's silly he never got to see the platinum awards. Saturday, jan. 15 The Landing Strip Choir will embark on a pretty insane adventure in "The West".

So... with a, like usual, hectic december kicking off, it's time to think about 2011. Not much thinking; agenda's filling itself. I want to tell you how thrilled I am by everything coming up; first of all, Acda en de Munnik are embarking on a new tour which of course I will (partly) join. Partly? Huh? Yes, you got that. Before the tour was planned I had set my mind on this project coming up which Ken Stringfellow (you know him) by now has named The Landing Strip Choir. iLike! So what's the deal? It's kind of a band with Trevor Morais (Of Nina Simone, Björk, Tina Turner, Underworld, Peddlers and Mark knopfler fame) on kinda drums, Ken Stringfellow (Told you you know him! Ah well ok once more, Posies, REM, Big Star) kinda all over the place plus yours truly filling in where possible. Main goal is to come back with an album which we're going to record on Trinidad. Among the way, of course we'll showcase our chops in a theatre near you (well, actually, it might not be that near; one's in the middle of the Amazon rainforest.) Will keep you posted whenever there's progress... Love. |
L.S.!
After the shock and all that came with Solomon's passing, I had to leave for Memphis TN to record a record that I already rank among the best I've worked on. The Souldiers: two sisters, a brother and two damn fine musicians. Add Dave Smith (probably the world's finest bassplayer), Ardent studios and a night on Beale Street and leave that simmer for a coupla weeks. More on that soon! I've also produced a Christmas album for Basta Records and while at it, I tried a go at writing a season song to. Judge for yourself at Basta's website. Also, I'm working on avant la lettre's debut album. A really good band from Amsterdam. In january I will leave for Curacao, Trinidad, Guyana and Surinam to start working on a project with friends Ken Stringfellow and Trevor Morais. I will put up the dates for the live shows we're going to do in between working on tracks. Okay, increase the peace y'all!

I am devastated by the passing of The King Of Rock 'n Soul, the reverend, the father, the genius, the everloving, but above all, my dear friend Solomon. My heart goes out to his beloved ones. I'm speechless, but I will remember his love, his music and his incredible sense of humour.
